I keep a copy of the links page on my hard drive and use it as my
startup home page. That way it loads fast and is easier than searching
through a tree of favorites. Since I use this all the time, I update
the page frequently.
If you want a copy to put on your hard drive, you can download a zipped version: start.zip 114KB (Includes images).
Just unzip it in the folder of your choice and make it your browser startup home page. Or add it to your favorites/bookmarks.
If you already have a copy, here is the latest update: starthtm.zip 17KB (HTML only)
Don't just use your browser "save as..." for the page because the web version has the
code for a web counter and that will distort the statistics. Also, both
Netscape and InetExplorer use a poorly thought out way of saving web pages Firefox is better and Opera is even better.
I decided not to use a self-extracting zip file because some people hesitate to download an .exe file from an unknown source (good idea).
If this isn't clear here's some instructions:
DOWNLOAD
Create a new folder such as c:\startpage\
Double click My Computer on the screen.
Double click drive C:
Click File | New | Folder
Press Backspace and type in the new folder name
Press Enter
Click the homestart.zip link above
Save the file to disk in the new folder
UNZIP
Unzip the downloaded file with a zip file utility such as
MAKE THE LINKS PAGE YOUR BROWSER STARTUP PAGE
Double click My Computer on the screen.
Double click drive C:
Double click the folder that contains the unzipped file.
Double click the file homestart.htm.
Your browser will open.
For Internet Explorer:
On the menu, Click Tools | InternetOptions | Use Current
Click OK
For Netscape:
On the menu, Click Options | General Preferences
Click the tab Appearances
Click Home Page Location
Type file:///C:/startpage/homestart.htm
